What makes ECHO
a great place to work?

We have a saying here at ECHO: Relationship trumps transaction. It’s how we treat each other, our freelance family, and our cherished clients. The business of storytelling is intimate work, which is just how we like it.

Who we are

Storytellers with a purpose

In 1999, ECHO Storytelling Agency was founded after our CEO, Samantha Reynolds, missed the chance to get her grandmother’s life on record. What started as a personal mission turned into a professional passion.

Over 26 years, we have attracted a remarkable group of talented and dedicated storytelling professionals who share our purpose to help people deepen their relationships with the people who matter most.

What we do

Stories that connect and inspire

Our award-winning company has produced over 300 story projects for many of the world’s most discerning and private families, as well as global companies such as Microsoft, adidas and lululemon.

We specialize in personal memoirs, commemorative books, legacy videos, storytelling workshops, memory insurance, family values consulting, and brand storytelling.

What we believe

Our core values

If you spend time with us, you’ll soon notice that we talk about our three values. A lot. We use them every single day to guide our decisions and actions, especially the tough ones.

Echo’s purpose is to deepen relationships, so we put relationships at the heart of all our transactions.

This means we find unique ways to delight people. We notice the little things and look for meaningful ways to connect with our clients and with each other. We believe in the “relationship bank account,” and we make frequent deposits. We hug.

We also know that every project has its bumps, and we bring big empathy to those moments, working hard to hear and validate the emotions of our clients and our colleagues.

This doesn’t mean we do everything that is asked of us. We’re flexible, and if there’s a better way, we’re nimble and open-minded enough to adapt. But we’re not reactive. If we are asked to do something we feel will jeopardize the excellence or deadline of a project — or the well-being of a colleague — we draw on the clarity of our shared agreements to find an empathetic way forward.

When all is said and done, our clients know that we respect their opinion, we care about them deeply as human beings, and we want their project to be a huge success.

We hire incredible talent who we train in our unique Echo way, and then trust to do excellent work. That work begins with a deep understanding of what our clients and our colleagues need and why.

We make careful agreements to complete projects on time and on budget. Then we abide by those agreements, and we expect all of our partners to do the same.

We take deep pride in our work. We are thorough, lavish in our research, creative in our problem-solving, and rigorous in our attention to detail.

Together, we move mountains.

We strive to nurture a culture at ECHO that feels abundant and optimistic … and we also accept that life is not always “only good feels.” Every person’s reality includes the negative. But no matter how we’re feeling on any given day, we have each other’s back.

When life feels challenging, focusing on doing excellent work can be a welcome distraction (and that’s okay). A sense of humour goes a long way, too, and if we need support, we ask for it because we’re never on our own.

Above all else, we know that when we’re acting on one of Echo’s core values, we don’t need to ask permission. Initiative is our love language.

A day in the life

Did anyone say cake?

While we are generally a quiet bunch when we’re hard at work, we love hanging out with each other, whether it’s over lunch, a coffee, or after work. We have lots of laughs, eat lots of cake, and do jigsaw puzzles on the regular. We play music while we work, and we always make time for a chat. Our Slack channel is full of book recommendations, recipes, and comedy. We also love giving kudos when they’re due — life is too short not to celebrate.
